No nation can survive without a framework for enhancing and sustaining national food security. The food industry and Nigeria's economy need constant supply of knowledgeable and trained manpower. The establishment of the Department of Food Science and Technology is therefore, a response to the challenge of enhancing and sustaining National Food Security Programme via processing and preservation of food. The vision and mission of Food Science and Technology programme is therefore, hinged on training of disciplined, innovative and self-reliant first grade manpower for the food industry in Nigeria and the world at large. The Department is endowed with highly trained specialists who teach with professional touch and guide students to the height of competency in Food Science and Technology. Courses and practicals in the Department are designed to ensure that students are well trained and made creators of wealth in the society through agro-industrial activities. It is encouraging and worthy to note that the Department with a humble beginning in 2011 is now having many students. The Department had the first graduating students in 2017 with six second class upper and eight second class lower divisions. The Department is poised to produce sound Food Scientists and Technologists that will rate among the best in character and learning.
