Medical Biochemistry

This course entails the study of the biochemical aspect of diagnosis and therapeutics. It covers the study of blood composition and chemistry, metabolic diseases, abnormal hemoglobin and diagnostic enzymes. It studies the chemistry and function of other body fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid and the chemical pathology of gut, liver, kidney and nervous system, describes the biochemical mechanism in clinical biochemistry, forensic biochemistry and biochemical substance of forensic interest such as contamination of foods and drugs and looks at the collection, preservation and biochemical analysis of materials of forensic interest. It also involves the study of the Public Analyst in forensic practice together with Regulatory agencies in Forensic Biochemistry such as SON and NAFDAC
