Core Objectives
The specific objectives of the Computer Engineering programme for students are to:
Provide a sound foundation in computing, electronics, and engineering fundamentals including digital systems, circuits, algorithms, and programming.
Equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge in computer architecture, embedded systems, networks, and hardware-software integration.
Develop competence in designing, implementing, and managing computer systems that meet global standards for performance, reliability, and security.
Train students to apply engineering principles and ICT tools to analyze, model, and solve complex engineering problems.
Foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional ethics, enabling graduates to pursue successful careers or self-employment in computer and related engineering fields.
History of the Department of Computer Engineering
The Department of Computer Engineering at Federal University Wukari was established to bridge the gap between hardware and software engineering disciplines, providing world-class education and research in computer systems, embedded technologies, and intelligent automation. From its inception, the Department has been dedicated to developing engineers who combine analytical thinking, design creativity, and technological expertise to solve real-world engineering and computing challenges.
Initially focusing on undergraduate training in core areas such as computer architecture, digital systems, and microprocessors, the Department has evolved to embrace modern fields like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), and Smart Systems. Its curriculum is continually updated to align with global industry standards, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the dynamic demands of the technology-driven world.
Over the years, the Department has grown in both size and influence, driven by a team of dedicated faculty members committed to excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. Through strong partnerships with industry and government agencies, it continues to foster practical learning, entrepreneurship, and technological solutions that contribute meaningfully to national and international development.

Admission Requirements
UTME
- Five O’level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at SSCE, NECO, GCE or equivalent at not more than two sittings.
D.E
- UTME qualifications plus (i) or (ii).
- At least two A‟ level passes in Mathematics, and any of Physics and Chemistry.
- ND in Computer Science.
